Refined, pale-coloured natural resin used for clear finishes in woodworking, food coatings and pharmaceuticals. Seedlac is dissolved in heated sodium carbonate solution, treated with sodium hydrochloride, cooled and filtered; bleached shellac is recovered by precipitation with sulphuric acid, then washed and dried.
